What is the Qi? (Chi)

Qi is a combination of energies mixed together from the food we eat, the air we breathe, and our inherited bodily constitution. It is an intelligent energy system that maintains our health and balance. Everything we know of is made of and radiates energy! Qi is the vital energy in all living things, which provides the power to accomplish everyday activities. It is necessary for the growth, development, movement, and overall regulation of the body, which includes bodily temperature and protection against illness and disease. Our health is influenced by the quality, quantity, and balance of Qi. When Qi gathers, the physical body is formed, when Qi leaves, the body passes on.

What is the meridians?

Meridians are an invisible current, which Qi flows through energizing, nourishing, and supporting every cell, tissue, muscle, organ, and gland. Meridians are like rivers inside the body. Where ever a river flows it carries water that provides nourishment and sustenance for life on our planet. Similarly, meridians are the rivers where Qi flows inside of us. Each meridian is connected to specific organs and glands.

Why people suffer from pain, disease, and poor health?

Different stresses affect meridians and organs in different ways disrupting the flow of Qi. A blockage in the meridians will restrict the supply of Qi required to nourish and support the cells, tissues, muscles, organs, and glands. This blockage manifests in various signs and symptoms. Over time the entire body becomes weakened and its ability to heal itself becomes compromised. Eventually, the body becomes susceptible to pain, disease, and poor health.

Why do they want to look at my tongue?”

The color, shape, size of the tongue, and color of the tongue coat provide vital clues about internal organs.

Why do they want to feel my pulse?

There are over 28 subtle variations in the quality of the pulse which are felt at six different positions on each wrist.

Why do they want to check my ear spots?

When disorders occur in the internal organs they may appear at the corresponding parts of the auricle. You will be asked to tell the doctor which spot is painful when it is pressed on.

Why do they want to check my eyes?

Eyes are “windows” into the body’s state of health. Patterns, colors, and other characteristics of the iris can be examined for information about a patient’s systemic health. Doctors use the iris charts to distinguish between healthy systems and organs in the body, and those that are overactive, inflamed, or distressed. Gua sha is a gentle scraping of the skin surface using a Gua sha tool to increase the circulation of Qi and blood.

What is cupping?

Cupping uses glass to create a vacuum on the skin’s surface in order to increase blood circulation.

What is acupressure?”

Acupressure is a massage technique that stimulates the meridians, facilitating the flow of Qi.

What is laser therapy?

Laser is a special type of amplified light that is monochromatic and coherent. Laser has the ability to penetrate deep into the tissue where it stimulates the individual cell, just like sunlight provides energy to plants through photosynthesis.

Is laser dangerous?

Therapeutic lasers have an output power range just below that of surgical lasers. Because of the divergence of the beam, there is no risk of damage- to the eye or tissue. The effect is entirely beneficial and stimulating for the body’s repair mechanisms.

Does it hurt?

Laser therapy itself is painless, though sometimes there might be a slight prickling or tingling sensation. A laser treatment typically takes 10-20 minutes and is often combined with other therapies.

Are there any side effects?

No side effects. At the most, there may be some reaction to the therapy in the form of temporary discomfort in the area being treated. This is normal and it will disappear within 12-24 hours.

How often will I need treatment?”

It depends. This primarily depends on the nature of the problem, whether it is an acute injury or repetitive strain injury sustained over a long period of time. Typically 10-12 treatments over a period of 5-6 weeks.
